Traditionally my family have always taken holidays camping and as kids we loved it because we had the freedom to run around outside, play on our bikes and spend day after day with the friends that we had made.? I returned again when the youngest was a few years old and although it was hard work, it was totally worth it and was fantastic for the children.? Now my children are a few years older, it is getting easier every year.

This year I went away camping as usual and we were on a camp site with a few friends who had young children and one who had a new baby that was only a few weeks old.? After spending a week with them and seeing how they managed, I could have kicked myself when I realised that camping with a brand new baby is actually really easy and much easier than when they are a few years old, because most of the time they are asleep or being carried around.? You can carry them around in a sling and still do most things in the evening, they can be out wherever you are in the pram and they can sleep on the move.

I really wish that I had realised this at the time, because I missed a few years which I could have easily managed with a new baby.? The trick is to simplify your life while you are away and make sure you prepare before you go, you can make some dishes and freeze them in takeaway containers in advance.? I freeze everything before we leave (butter, bread) and then put it all in a cool bag, that way it stays cold for a couple of days.? You can then cook things as they defrost.

The other tip is to make sure you don't have a hectic schedule, so you don't need to rush about.? Life with a new baby needs to be flexible and you need time to prepare before you go out.?

Another good idea is to have an extra adult, you could take a family friend, aunt, uncle or grandparent as an extra pair of hands, this can be really helpful if you have other children who need watching or entertaining.

One of the most important thing is that you have plenty of space in your tent or an extra gazebo in case the weather is bad, the hardest thing is all being in a small space for a long time.

Rains, flooding kill dozens in north, east India (AP)

Rescuers struggled to reach affected villages in eastern part of Uttar Pradesh but were hampered by rains expected to continue another two days. Rivers including the Ganga were flowing above danger levels.

Thirteen people died in the state's Mirzapur district "when the roof of their mud houses collapsed," Relief Commissioner K.K. Sinha said.

Another 18 died in Jaunpur district.

"Many of them died in their sleep," said P.K. Upadhaya, a district magistrate. "Heavy rainfall hampered the rescue operation."

More than 50 villages in Chandauli district were also flooded. The northern Indian state offered compensation of about $2,200 to victims' families.

Water overflowing from dams in Uttar Pradesh, meanwhile, caused widespread flooding in 12 districts of neighboring Bihar state, Water Resources Minister Vijendra Choudhary.

Thousands of people were taking shelter on embankments and rooftops.

The state also ordered all engineers to cancel any holidays and guard the riverbanks from further erosion.

Groupon COO jumps ship after 5 months

He said that Groupon would reorganize its management structure in a way that reflects the company's evolving strategic priorities, with the Sales, Marketing, Channels and International divisions now reporting directly to Mason.

Georgiadis will take the job currently held by Dennis Woodside at Google. Google said that Woodside will now oversee the integration of Motorola Mobility Holdings, which Google announced plans to acquire for $12.5 billion in August and which is currently awaiting regulatory approval.

The news comes as Groupon is preparing to float shares to the public in a $750 million IPO.

Earlier this month, sources told Reuters that Groupon had put the IPO on hold for at least a few weeks, hoping to ride out global market turmoil while dealing with some regulatory scrutiny.

Mason drew fire after an August memo to employees lashing out at the daily deal site's critics was leaked widely to media. In the internal memo, Mason also talked about August revenue growth and reaffirmed his confidence in the business.

The company has received questions from the SEC about the memo, the Wall Street Journal cited unidentified sources as saying. Regulations limit what companies can say ahead of a planned IPO.

Groupon included the internal memo in its amended registration filing on Friday and said the memo was leaked to the media without the company's knowledge.

The company also distinguished between its "gross billings" which include the money it collects from customers for its coupons, and "revenue" which excludes the portion that Groupon shares with the restaurants and retailers which offer coupons through Groupon.

In the first six months of 2011, Groupon had gross billings of $1.6 billion and revenue of $688 million, according to the amended filing.

Georgiadis' departure marks the second time in less than a year that Groupon's COO slot has been vacated. In March, then COO Rob Solomon announced that he was leaving the company.

Georgiadis said in the Groupon blog post on Friday that she believed Groupon was on a "terrific path" and that she had confidence in the team's ability to realize its mission.

COLUMBIA, Mo. A new University of Missouri study shows that Mexican-American students who identify and practice speaking their native language have higher grades than those who are put in English-only environments in their schools.

"A real educational disparity exists because Mexican-Americans, along with other Latinos, are now the largest minority; yet, they still have the lowest high school and college graduation rates," said David Aguayo, a doctoral student in the Department of Educational, School and Counseling Psychology in the College of Education. "I understand the reasons behind English-only efforts, but the research shows that if we don't accept the cultural identity of these students in our schools, such as tolerating their native language, Mexican-Americans may not succeed."

Aguayo compared survey results of 408 Mexican-American students. He examined whether the students were born in the U.S. or Mexico; the students' grade point averages; and the students' abilities to perform college-related tasks. Aguayo found that students who embraced their cultural heritage and spoke in their native languages had higher grade point averages than those that only spoke English while in school and at home.

"It's a simple correlation, but living and learning within your cultural heritage is a benefit," Aguayo said. "It could be speaking the language in school, eating certain foods, or interacting with other people who share your heritage. The stress level of being in a new culture will decrease if these students have a support system in school, while they are adjusting to other cultures." In the future, Aguayo will study the motivations of Mexican-American students who move to the U.S. Statistics show these students have more success in school than Mexican-American students who have lived in the U.S. their entire lives.

"Educators need to be aware of students' home lives," Aguayo said. "Immigrant parents, in particular, tend to put more trust in educators, rather than being involved in the child's education like we normally see in the U.S. If educators can take the time to learn about the parents' culture, the educators can have a positive impact on the students' future."

Instead, they will look to the LTC ratio (percentage of total cost the construction lender is being asked to cover). Traditionally, commercial construction lenders will only lend up to 80% of total cost. If a property type is out of favor with investors, however, some commercial construction lenders might consider no more than a 70% loan-to-cost ratio.

Debt Service Coverage (DSC) Ratio: To determine if the takeout loan will be large enough to payoff the construction loan, the construction lender will compute the DSC ratio. This ratio is computed by dividing the projected annual net operating income by the annual debt service (principal and interest payments). The net operating income of the property is the income left over after operating expenses such as taxes, insurance, repairs, and management costs, plus estimated vacancy losses, collection losses, and replacement expenses, such as a new roof or heater. In general, the DSC ratio must be larger than 1.25. In other words, net income from the project must be at least 25% larger than the projected annual debt service.

Net-Worth-to Loan Size Ratio: Finally, the lender will look to the developers net-worth-to-loan-size ratio. Generally, the developers net worth should be at least as large as the loan amount. The ratio is calculated by dividing the developers net worth by loan size. This should be greater than 1.0. During recessions, banks often require this ratio to be as high as 1.5.

"We're hoping to reach a whole new audience of people, some of whom will be shocked by graphic images that maybe they didn't anticipate seeing when they went to the PETA triple-X site," said Lindsay Rajt, PETA's associate director of campaigns.

PETA has been accused of campaigning for animal rights at the cost of exploiting women. A Facebook group, Real Women Against PETA, was launched after the organization paid for a billboard showing an obese woman with the message: "Save the Whales. Lose the Blubber. Go Vegetarian."

Another critical Facebook group is called, "Vegans (and Vegetarians) Against PETA."

"PETA is extremely disingenuous," said Jennifer Pozner, executive director of the New York-based advocacy group Women In Media & News. "They have consistently used active sexism as their marketing strategy to garner attention. Their use of sexism has gotten more extreme and more degrading.

"This may be in their minds the only thing left at their disposal to lower the bar," she said.

PETA has filed paperwork to launch its pornography site when the controversial new .xxx domain becomes active in early December. While many nonprofits and corporations are scrambling to protect their website names from being hijacked by a pornographer slapping on a .xxx domain, PETA is embracing the new domain as just another way to conduct business.

"We try to use every outlet that we can to speak up for animals," Rajt said. "We anticipated that this new triple-X domain name would be a hot topic and we immediately decided to use it and take advantage of it to try to promote the animal rights message."

Jill Dolan, director of the program in gender and sexuality studies at Princeton University, was critical of the PETA campaigns.

"Exploiting porn to get people's juices going seems lame; exploiting pornographic images only of women to make their point is retrograde and misogynist," Dolan said in an email. "Come on, PETA. Don't be Neanderthals."

Rajt denied that PETA has been insensitive to women.

"Our demonstrators, the models, all chose to participate in our campaigns... It's not a very feminist thing to do to turn to women and tell them whether or not they can use their voices, their bodies to express their voice."

Visitors to the X-rated site will initially be presented with pornographic content as well as images from PETA's salacious ads and campaigns, Rajt said. Those images will be followed by pictures and video shot undercover of the mistreatment of animals. The site will also include links to vegetarian and vegan -- using no animal products -- starter kits as well as recipes.

PETA's ad campaigns have featured adult film stars Sasha Grey, Ron Jeremy and Jenna Jameson. In 2008, the organization's YouTube account was temporarily shut down after showing racy videos of celebrities and others posing nude.

"When people first visit the site, it will be very enticing and once they go just a little bit deeper, that's when they'll be confronted with images that we hope will make them stop and think and get them talking and hopefully encourage them to make a lifestyle change to a plant-based diet," Rajt said.

Tea Tasting At Thornes Foods, Upper Gardner Street, Brighton ...

As part of the Brighton & Hove Festival of Food and Drink Festival, Jennifer Wood of the Canton Tea Company held a tea tasting workshop upstairs in the restaurant at Thornes today. It was much more than tasting different teas with some rather nice cakes however, [although it was that as well]. Jennifer held us spellbound as she took us on a verbal tour of the history of tea, and such is her obvious love of the subject we were hardly aware that we were absorbing a wealth of knowledge. The history encompassed geography, botany, climate, culture and politics spanning centuries and continents, with the most wonderful tea related anecdotes bringing it all alive for us. I gave up drinking any tea but herbal a while ago, but after tasting some of these teas I may well review that decision ? particularly as the loose Puerh tea that Thornes stock has a remarkable similarity of flavour to my favourite Springback 15 year old single malt whisky!
We progressed from the lightness of Jasmine Pearls, sweetly aromatic Jasmine Tea through a White Tea -? Silver Needle [Yin Zhen] with its light delicate flavour, Green Tea ? Pouchong with its delicate bright fresh flavour, on to Oolong Tea ? the famous Iron Buddha [Tie Guan Yin] that is lightly roasted to give a fuller flavour, popular throughout China, and on to two very special teas: Superior Bai Lin Gong Fu, a rare and delicious Black Tea with a rich smooth flavour and finally onto the Canton Tea Co Puerhh Beeng Cha, of which we tried two different versions, the loose Puerr and the 2011 Special Yi Wu Big Tree Raw Beeng Cha. This special tea from Yunnan is made exclusively for the company. It has a very distinctive flavour and is believed to have extraordinary health giving properties. Which for something that tastes so good can?t be right surely?!
You can taste some of these teas yourself in the restaurant at Thornes, or buy some to take home with you in the shop.

Fire at prison in Iraqi capital kills 6 inmates (AP)

BAGHDAD ? Police say an early morning fire at a prison in Iraq's capital has killed six inmates.

Two police officers say at least 26 other inmates have been treated for smoke inhalation and other injuries from Monday's blaze.

Medics at Kindi and Ibin Nafees hospitals confirmed the casualties. All spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to release the information.

It was not immediately clear what caused the fire at an Interior Ministry prison in Baladiyat, a mostly Shiite neighborhood in eastern Baghdad.

It took firefighters about an hour to extinguish the blaze.

ITF: Nadal can't blame Davis Cup for busy calendar (AP)

CORDOBA, Spain ? Rafael Nadal shouldn't blame the Davis Cup for the crowded tennis schedule after playing the event infrequently in recent years, the head of the International Tennis Federation said Saturday.

Nadal was again critical of the busy schedule Friday after winning the first match in Spain's 2-0 Davis Cup semifinal lead over France. It came four days after he lost the U.S. Open final in New York to Novak Djokovic. Asked if players could strike over the convoluted calendar, Nadal did not rule out "strong action."

But ITF president Francesco Ricci said Nadal's argument was "inconsistent."

"Nadal has all the right to feel tired after playing 70 matches this year, but that's not the fault of the Davis Cup, which he has played only three times in the past two years," Ricci said at Cordoba's bullring.

Nadal helped Spain lift the Davis Cup trophy in 2009.

"Nadal says we don't listen to the players but the date of the Davis Cup was changed against the wishes of the ITF and its president," Ricci said. "We still feel the dates, especially those in September, are not right."

Nadal was among a group of top players ? including Roger Federer ? which lobbied the ITF to move Davis Cup dates to the week after Wimbledon and the U.S. Open in 2009.

Nadal said organizers only cared about money and not the players' health in remarks Friday. Talk has emerged about making the Davis Cup a biannual tournament, but Ricci said was "nonnegotiable."

"Playing Davis Cup can't just be about money, you also have to give something back to the sport," Ricci said.
